Pallars: a small vertical paradise
Pallars Sobirà and Pallars Jussà are lands of rock. From the Terradets Gorge to the highest peaks of the Catalan Pyrenees, including the spectacular Collegats Gorge, this region offers the perfect setting for adventure sports.
Since 2020, thanks to initiatives promoted by local councils, several via ferratas have been equipped throughout Pallars, making the area an outstanding destination both for beginners looking for their first via ferrata in Catalonia and for experienced climbers seeking a greater challenge.
Today, three main via ferratas concentrate most of the activity in the region, each with its own unique character.

A complete and varied route with options for every skill level.
To discover Salt del Botanal, you’ll need to travel to the village of Alins, in Vall Ferrera. Here you’ll find the first sport via ferrata built in the Pallars region and one of its most complete adventures.
- Location: Alins (Pallars Sobirà)
- Difficulty: K3 (avoiding the hardest sections) or K5 (including the Torre Roia overhang and the 50-metre Conrad Bridge)
- Approach: 5 minutes
- Climbing time: 2.5 to 3 hours
- Descent: 30 minutes
- Equipped length: 480 metres
- Elevation gain: 327 metres
What can you expect along the route?
Salt del Botanal is divided into three different sections with increasing levels of difficulty.
The best part is that you can choose which sections to complete depending on your experience and fitness level.
Les Bruixes Ridge (Beginner & Family Section)
This is the first section of the route and is perfect for beginners and families.
You’ll alternate between metal rungs and natural rock climbing, creating a varied experience that lets you discover what it’s like to climb a large vertical wall.
You can finish your adventure here or continue to the upper sections.
Torre Roia (Optional K5+ Section)
This is the most demanding part of Salt del Botanal, featuring a challenging overhang that will put your arm strength to the test.
Fortunately, it’s completely optional. If you’re looking for an introductory via ferrata, you can bypass this obstacle by following the easier alternative route.
The climb then continues along the Grey Wall, another enjoyable section combining steel rungs and natural rock holds as you continue gaining height.
Conrad Bridge and Les Savines Wall (Final Section)
Before reaching the summit, you’ll face two final obstacles.
The first is Conrad Bridge, a spectacular 50-metre Nepalese suspension bridge spanning an 80-metre drop that will challenge both your balance and your head for heights.
This bridge is also optional. After crossing—or bypassing—it, you’ll tackle the final climb along Les Savines Wall, which leads directly to the Botanal Viewpoint.
Reaching the top is well worth the effort thanks to the breathtaking panoramic views over Vall Ferrera.
Descending via the Alins Fire Festival Trail
The adventure doesn’t end at the viewpoint.
The descent follows the same trail used every St. John’s Eve by the famous Alins Fire Festival participants, who run down the mountain carrying burning torches on their shoulders.
It’s one of the region’s most beautiful traditions, and if you’re lucky enough to visit at that time of year, you can book your via ferrata experience for the same day or the following one.

- Approach: 2 minutes
- Climbing time: 1 hour
- Descent: 15 minutes
- Equipped length: 240 metres
- Elevation gain: 68 metres
Located in the municipality of Llimiana, this via ferrata climbs the limestone cliffs overlooking the Terradets Reservoir. Opened in 2024, the route follows a spectacular rock face and passes through several natural stone arches, which give the route its name.
With a K3 difficulty rating, it is an ideal introduction to via ferratas. The adventure begins with an enjoyable horizontal traverse combining steel rungs and suspension bridges before reaching one of the highlights of the route: the pendulum.
Before reaching this section, climbers also have the option of tackling an optional 7 to 8-metre overhang graded K5 for an extra challenge.
The pendulum is one of the most exciting parts of the climb. Attached securely to a chain connected to your harness, you’ll swing across to another section of the cliff with your feet hanging in mid-air. After that, a final vertical climb leads to the end of the route.
Thanks to its easy access and entertaining layout, this via ferrata is perfect for beginners, families and groups of friends looking for a fun outdoor adventure.

- Difficulty: K2, K3, K4 and K5 options
- Approach: 20 minutes
- Climbing time: 1 to 3 hours
- Descent: 30 to 60 minutes
- Equipped length: 420 metres
- Elevation gain: 110 metres
The Roca Foradada Via Ferrata, located in La Pobla de Segur, was designed to suit almost every type of climber, from complete beginners to experienced adventurers.
Several route options allow you to choose the experience that best matches your skill level.
K2 Route
The easiest option begins with a gentle vertical climb followed by an enjoyable horizontal traverse featuring a Tibetan bridge with excellent views. The route finishes by descending a metal ladder, making it the perfect choice for families or anyone trying a via ferrata for the first time.
K3 Route
This option shares much of the K2 itinerary but, instead of descending, continues climbing an easy section of the wall until reaching the famous Roca Foradada.
K4 Route
The K4 variant starts differently, crossing a spectacular 30-metre Nepalese suspension bridge before tackling a steeper wall with several overhangs that leads to Roca Foradada. Along the way you’ll also find an optional K5 section if you’re looking for an extra challenge.
After reaching Roca Foradada, you can continue climbing to complete the full K4 route.
Full Route
The integral route combines every section of the via ferrata into one complete adventure across the unique conglomerate rock formations of La Pobla de Segur.
